Overcoming Obstacles – BackPack Pal Video 2011

“A picture is worth a thousand words,” is a very familiar saying to most of us.  So when the CISNC office called and said they would like to feature our BackPack Pal program in the monthly video series “Overcoming Obstacles: CIS Success Stories”  I jumped at the chance.

BackPack Pals is our weekend nutrition program serving Lee County students.  It is our biggest program, it takes the most coordination, the most volunteers, and the most money.  But it is also one of our most rewarding programs, not just to the children we help to feed, but to everyone involved.

Raising awareness to an issue like childhood hunger is not an easy task.  Sometimes it is a hard thing to digest that a child living down the street from you might not have enough to eat on the weekends.  I hope this video can serve as an awareness tool.  Yes, children right here in our community are going hungry.  Yes, you can help; you can do something about it and you can start by sharing this video.

A special thanks to Justin Cook, who produced an amazing video, not to mention the very kind words, and to Audrey Stone, counselor at Greenwood Elementary School, for coordinating with the fantastic family who allowed us to put a face with a backpack.
